Boyda’s Bizarre Record on Government Surveillance, Filming and FISA

Yesterday I pointed out how weird it was for Boyda to spend time, energy and money filming Lynn Jenkins’ town hall meetings. Now, I wasn’t the first to point this out, but for someone so opposed to the U.S. monitoring terrorists with surveillance technology (i.e. FISA), I found it odd for her to invest so much money in some sketchy staffer to shadow her prospective opponent. She has no problem slamming the door on the FBI, CIA, US Marshalls and the military, but her standards on "pestering" citizens change completely when it comes to helping her campaign.

Moreover, this isn’t some high-stakes Kerry v. Bush race, this is Kansas, with small venues and intimate campaign experiences. It's like bringing a bazooka to a backyard barbecue, it's just not the right place.

Naturally, Democrats countered on the blog, saying that the KSDP, not the Boyda campaign, was paying for the staffer to film these events. If that was the case (and there was NO knowledge or coordination with the Boyda campaign and the KSDP) I could concede that argument.

But then I looked at one of Boyda's FEC reports. Looks like on 10/23/07, Boyda's campaign paid $3584.68 to the Kansas Democratic Party for Staff Services.

Nancy Boyda doesn't have the courage to be open and transparent about the people she employs to harass Kansas Republicans.... So she sends MacGyver via KSDP to do it for her. Keep up the classy work Nancy.

that payment was for Blake Johnson, you jackass...like Bounce Boyda and Stay Red have pointed out already.

and why the ranting about lynn being filmed? she's an elected official advertising public events...she better be used to people she doesn't like or agree with watching her every step...like you yahoos do with Boyda.

Oh, and why no ranting about the KDP filming Ryun?

Good grief.

Are you kidding us? Do you truly not know the difference between the government secretly searching and taping American citizens without warrants, and video taping public officials at public events speaking on public policy?

Are you THAT DAMN DENSE???

Good grief.

The payments to Blake Johnson, and there were more than a few, were listed as payments to Blake Johnson.

This was a separate payment, Jackass.

HYPOCRITE

it's offensive you'd compare taping a public event to spying on American citizens.

you ought be ashamed.

do you find any payments to Johnson from before that payment for "staff services?"

no, you don't. all the staff services payment are for Johnson.

Can you find any recent payments for "staff services?" Do you really think that payment from October has anything to do with Jim and Lynn being taped now?

No, you're smarter than that, you know perfectly well you're trying to misled.

Fact- Someone from the KSDP is taping Boyda's opponents.

Fact- Boyda is paying the KSDP $3500 for "staff services."

Conclusion- Boyda is paying for opposition research services via the KSDP. Sounds about right to me.

i can buy you for $3,500 to do my opp research? one time only payment?

where can i sign up!

well it doesn't cost a lot of money to pay someone to hold up a camcorder. you just gotta find someone with little self worth. someone from the ksdp perhaps?

Where is your Ben Hodge post? This is a Republican blog afterall.

Boys, boys, boys. Don't you wish KSGOP could afford a real office, with real staff, and enough electricity to keep the lights on? You know, like KSDP does?

This my friends is what you call inductive reasoning.

Trust me, no one pays $3500 a month for a tracker.

Ben Hodge's "Kansas Progress" blog says he's probably going to be running against Sue Storm.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Good luck with that, Benny!

Oh, and TKR: When do we get our Ben Hodge thread? Or do we just have to hijack this one?

Hodge is thinking about running against Sue Storm? He can't be that stpuid.

Can he?

it's not like jenkins is campaigning every day of the week. this is probably a 20 hour a month job. the payment sounds about right.

FISA is about upholding the rule of law and respecting the constitution restraints placed upon the government.

Bush has circumvented the rule of law to use the governemnt to spy on the citizeny. Which y'all seem to be okay with.

"Lurch", a member of the citizenry, is monitoring a member of his government and y'all are dumbfounded.

The health of our Democracy rests upon an informed and educated citizenry. Since you're obviously opposed to governemnt transparency and an informed citizenry I have to ask..."Why are you trying to destroy Democracy?"

That was seven months ago!

AND THEY'RE RECORDING RYUN, TOO!

WHY in the world is that being ignored?

Anonymous said...

Ryun is so dumb he hasn't figured it out yet. One thing you don't mention is that the other people in the room, private citizens, voices and faces are being captured by this guy. What about their rights?? Will they give permission to be used in an attack ad? Jenkins mentions this to the crowd so they know they are being taped. She doesn't care about herself, opponents can just make up stuff anyway, who cares what she says.

What part of "public event" do you find so confusing? A person at a public event with public officials discussing public elections to determine public policy doesn't have an expectation of privacy.

Hint: Look up the word "public." It's even in the smallest of dictionaries.

Unless you're using a 1st Grade dictionary.

Hmmmm....that could be the answer we've all been missing!

They can see the camera, its not like its covert. IF they don't like it, they're free to ask him to stop.

TKR still avoids Hodge story. Are they so far out of the loop that they don't know he's resigned yet? Just embarassed by their friend, Ben? You guys would post about a turnip yet no Hodge post. Your cred takes another drop. You post lies about one good Republican but won't post about one of our worst. Wonder why?

do you how incredibly annoying it is to have that dude in a small room with Jenkins talking to 10 people?
it looks like boyda understands the threat that Jenkins poses.
